Offshore Charters in the Gulf of Papagayo
Run out into the deep Pacific where the big game lives. Marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo, on grounds our captains have fished for years.
Offshore means leaving the coastline behind and running for the blue water. It is a longer day and a bigger commitment than inshore, and it is the trip people fly here for.
The Gulf of Papagayo sits close to deep water, which keeps the run times reasonable compared with a lot of the Pacific coast. Blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado and wahoo all move through these grounds.
Seas are calmer from December through April, which makes the ride out easier and the day more comfortable. The fish do not stop the rest of the year, so if your dates are outside that window it is a question of comfort, not of catching.

What comes with the day
Pick-up: the boat waits in the bay, about 100 m off the beach, and a dinghy brings you out to it. Where no boat can reach, we arrange ground transport.
Fishing license: not in the price. Costa Rica requires one by law for every angler, and you buy it before the trip, online from INCOPESCA. Feel free to ask, we can provide guidance.
Boats rigged for offshore
Offshore wants length and fuel. These are a few of the boats that run this trip; the full list is on the fleet page.
