Our Story

About Papagayo Fishing

the people behind the Pacific experience

Connecting anglers from around the world with world-class fishing in the Gulf of Papagayo, Costa Rica.

Who We Are

Born From a Love of the Ocean

Papagayo Fishing was created by someone who grew up watching the Pacific from the shores of Guanacaste, a place where the water is warm, the fish are abundant, and every sunrise over the Gulf feels like a privilege.

We work with the same fleet and experienced local captains that have been fishing these waters for generations. This isn't just a business, it's a way of connecting you with one of the most productive sport fishing destinations on the planet.

Our captains were commercial fishermen before they became guides. They know where the Roosterfish hold when the water is murky, where the Sailfish stage in the late season, and which rocky point the big Cubera Snappers call home. That knowledge isn't something you read in a book.

What We Stand For

Our Values

Respect for the Ocean

We practice responsible catch-and-release for all billfish and protected species. The ocean sustains us, we protect it for future generations of anglers.

Honest & Transparent

No hidden fees. No upsells on the boat. What we quote is what you pay. Rates are per boat, not per person, so you know exactly what you're getting.

Your Experience First

We don't move to the next booking until yours is perfect. If conditions aren't right, we'll reschedule or refund, no questions asked with 3 days notice.

Mahi-Mahi Yellowfin Tuna Red Snapper Wahoo

Note: You may take frozen fish fillets home in checked baggage. Shipping live fish from Costa Rica is not permitted.

Where We Fish

The Gulf of Papagayo

Located in Guanacaste on Costa Rica's Pacific coast, one of the most productive sport fishing grounds in the world. Deep water close to shore means big fish within reach of any trip length.

Pick-Up Locations

We pick you up at your hotel beach: the boat waits about 100 m out, and a dinghy brings you to it. Where no boat can reach, we arrange ground transport. That covers the coast from Culebra Bay and Playa Flamingo down through Playa Conchal, Playa Potrero, and Playa Hermosa, plus Playas del Coco and the RIU Guanacaste resorts. Most guests fly into Liberia (LIR) and go straight from the airport to their hotel.
